By default, cPanel backups are stored on the server where cPanel is hosted. Specifically, they are typically stored in the following location:
Default Backup Storage Location:
/backup
If this directory does not exist or if another path has been configured, cPanel will use the specified path set in the backup configuration.
How to Change the Backup Destination
If you want to store backups in a different location, such as a remote server, cloud storage, or another directory on your server, follow these steps: 1. Access WHM Backup Configuration.- Log in to WHM (Web Host Manager).
- Navigate to Backup Configuration by searching for it in the WHM sidebar.
- Under the Backup Directory section, specify a new local directory to store backups elsewhere on the same server.
- Example: /new-backup-directory
- Scroll to the Additional Destinations section.
- Choose a remote backup option, such as:
- Google Drive
- Amazon S3
- FTP
- SCP
- Configure the necessary credentials and connection details for the remote destination.
- Once you’ve set the destination, use the Validate Destination button to test the connection and ensure the configuration is correct.
- After setting up the desired backup location, click Save Configuration to apply the changes.
- You can manually initiate a backup to confirm that the backups are stored in the new destination. To verify accessibility, use the Backup Restoration tool in WHM.
